Whose Turn is It?

My Week 33 ancestor is the unknown mother of Bernat Birnbaum.

Where is Your Break?

We don’t have any unknowns in my children’s ahnentafel until the sixth generation – which is pretty good! But when we hit them, as we have here, they are stymieing.

Last week we discussed #32, Mr. Birnbaum. Mr. and Mrs. Birnbaum are the parents of Bernat Birnbaum, who was born perhaps in the 1850s in a place that later became part of Czechoslovakia. I certainly can’t speculate on Mrs. Birnbaum beyond what I already did with her husband, so I will simply note that when we do get these breaks, they often come in multiples.

We all hit them at some point – people who did not leave a record that we can find. Their ancestry is necessarily a blank space in what we currently know, so there’s rarely one empty spot on the pedigree chart, but several.

Opportunity

This actually provides us with more opportunities to chip away at our brick wall. Each unknown person gives us another set of names, relationships, places, and records to look for.

Nothing Too Small

A blank space may not give us much to write about, but that doesn’t mean we should skip over it. Someday one of those nudges is going to solve the mystery!
